Today is a historic day. Today is the day that Americans come together, as one, to proclaim that Trump does not represent them. He does not represent the Americans that wake up every morning to perform some productive function for society. He does not represent the millions and millions of Americans who yearn for peace and harmony in a world gone ablaze. He does not represent those who are welcoming to strangers and the compassionate who help the most underserved and underprivileged members of our society. He does not represent the scientists and inventors who are working hard to illuminate truth and bring forth progress. He does not represent the average American who cannot afford decent healthcare and education.
No. Trump only represents himself. He represents the worst instincts in all of us. He represents the triumph of pettiness and small-mindedness. He is the high priest of lies, deceit, misinformation and bullshit. No public figure in the history of this country has ever lied with such fervor. His constant assault on truth has polluted the information ecology to the point where many cannot recognize basic facts, hindering our sense making capabilities. Trump represents, in sum, what someone devoid of virtues would look like.
Today is the day that Americans heal the wounds from the cancerous polarization that has been afflicting us for the past 4 years. Today we say "NO MORE TRUMP!". No more brazen venality and corruption. No more incompetence and systemic ignorance. Today the US opens its door to the world and reclaims its position among the world's nations, as a beacon of freedom and hope. Once the long shadow of this most unpresidential of presidents has exited the stage, we will again hold hands and move forward, towards a brighter future.
